TEDxSantaBarbara’s purpose is to showcase our community by providing a platform to express exceptionally innovative ideas, ideas we believe will mature in time to improve our society.

Who attends?


TEDxSantaBarbara attendees are a collection of open minded, creative and forward-thinking individuals. They include CEOs, entrepreneurs, business leaders, thought leaders and change makers. People travel to Santa Barbara from all over the region to attend as this is one of the premier TEDx events.

What is TEDxSantaBarbara?


In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED created a program called TEDx. TEDx events bring people together in communities around the world to share a TED-like experience. The X stands for “an independently organized TED event.” TEDxSantaBarbara is produced by a group of engaged community leaders and volunteers who are dedicated to creating a world-class experience for the speakers, audience, and for the Santa Barbara community. Organizer Mark Sylvester, a 20-year veteran of TED, has produced 6 local TEDx events and hosts a podcast called Hacking the Red Circle, a show for TEDx organizers. Ideas gleaned from those conversations are put into practice at TEDxSantaBarbara.

2017 Theme: Outside In


We are focusing on the Ocean, its impact on food, energy and the environment, Social Justice and local issues related to it including human trafficking and Invention vs. Innovation, “Where are our ‘Leonardo’s?”.

The day includes three main sessions with breaks to meet and mingle with attendees. Our 2017 event is at the New Vic theater in downtown Santa Barbara on Nov 11.
