Cooper Bates produced a one-man show and since sheltering-in-place has had to figure out how to be an actor in a virtual world. We’ll talk about the role of the audience in art and the artist as a game developer.

Cooper Bates

Storyteller, Artist, Performer

Cooper was born in Kansas and raised by the world. His life has afforded him a vast, if not odd, history of life experiences, from being abandoned in Haiti and homeless in Paris to living in Oaxaca, Mexico. Bates created the TEDx concept, co-produced TEDxSkidRow, founded LA Idea Project, launched a social game company “IQuestionCards” and as a performer, tours two award-winning solo shows: “Black When I Was A Boy” and “The Son Of A Man.” Bates moves through the world instilling empathy by spreading collective insight.

OUR ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITY
NAVIGATING THROUGH COVID-19

The world is grappling with an issue of enormous scale and human impact, and our hearts go out to all who have been affected by the outbreak of coronavirus (COVID-19).

At TEDxSantaBarbara, we believe it is our role and responsibility to prioritize two things: the health and the well-being of our community while also playing a constructive role in supporting local health officials and government leaders as they work to contain the virus. Through that lens, we will continue to make decisions with vigilance and courage informed by the latest science-based information.

As of now, we are postponing our main event in the Fall, to the first weekend in November 2021.
