Anjum Malik, founder of the Global Impact Initiative (GII), shares a powerful idea: Empowering refugees through personalized education and skill development can create transformative, generational change, turning crisis into opportunity.

In this inspiring talk, Malik describes how GII was born from the COVID-19 crisis and has evolved into a force for good, helping refugees like Mariam, who fled the Taliban, to build new lives. Malik's approach goes beyond traditional aid, focusing on tailored support that includes language training, job skills, and mentorship.

Through heartwarming success stories and candid insights into the challenges faced, Malik demonstrates how GII's work is not just about immediate relief but about creating lasting, positive impacts that can change the trajectory of families for generations to come. Her message is clear: with creativity, compassion, and community collaboration, we can turn the refugee crisis into an opportunity for empowerment and growth.

This talk is a must-watch for anyone interested in innovative approaches to global challenges, the power of education, and the potential for individuals to make a significant difference.

OUR ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITY
NAVIGATING THROUGH COVID-19

The world is grappling with an issue of enormous scale and human impact, and our hearts go out to all who have been affected by the outbreak of coronavirus (COVID-19).

At TEDxSantaBarbara, we believe it is our role and responsibility to prioritize two things: the health and the well-being of our community while also playing a constructive role in supporting local health officials and government leaders as they work to contain the virus. Through that lens, we will continue to make decisions with vigilance and courage informed by the latest science-based information.

As of now, we are postponing our main event in the Fall, to the first weekend in November 2021.
